Grace

Having received Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord, my Forgiver and Leader, and affirming the statement of faith of First Reformed Church, I hereby express my desire to unite in worship, fellowship and mission of the portion of the spiritual body of Christ known as First Church by entering into a covenant relationship with the others of this Body.

Becoming a Partner in Mission of First Church requires only that:

You are a sincere, baptized (or will be) believer/follower of Jesus Christ.

First Church is your church in which you have been regularly involved for several months.

You understand First Church’s mission, beliefs and history well enough to join wisely.

1. Salvation: What does it mean to 'become a Christian'? Please explain the gospel and our need for Jesus.

2. Testimony: Who first shared the gospel with you? How did you become a Christian? When did you become a Christian?

Belief Statement: Have you read, and wholeheartedly affirm the Core Values and Core Beliefs of First Church?

Are there any beliefs, doctrines, or practices of First Church that concern you?

Growth

A Christ follower at First Church has made the following commitments:

To personal spiritual nurture through private prayer, worship and Bible reading.

To embrace the Bible as God’s supreme source of truth for belief and living.

To yield to Christ and turn from ongoing patterns of ungodliness replacing them with godly structures.

To seek to extend the grace of Jesus Christ to others through example, prayer, verbal witness, and invitation to encounter the good news.

1. Holy Habits: Prayer, worship and Bible learning are crucial elements of growth for the believer. How are you presently nurturing your spiritual growth through these holy habits?

2. Godly Structure: Are there any patterns of ungodly activity (patterns of sin) that you know need to be delt with? What is your strategy to deal with this?

3. Witness: Are you currently sharing Christ's saving grace with others in your circle of influence?

4. Discipleship: Have you ever been discipled by a more mature Christian? If so, tell us about it. Have you ever discipled a less mature Christian? If so, please tell us about it. If not, is there a specific reason? Are you willing to pursure these?

Group

A Christ-follower at First Church has made the following commitments:

To affirm the mission and vision of First Church, seeking in all ways to exercise the Christian love and concern that characterizes the community of believers as described in Scripture.

To regularly participate in weekly corporate worship with First Church.

To pledge cooperation with and submission to the appropriate spiritual authority invested in the elders and leaders of the church.

To make every effort to reconcile or correct any relationships which are, according to biblical patterns, dishonoring to God.

To refrain from promoting doctrines not found in our statement of faith in ways that cause dissension.

1. Worship: God call His convenant community to regularly participate in worship. Is this true in your life?

If not, is there a specific reason?

2. 'My' Group: Area you connected to a smaller group of believers at First Church where you can know and be known, love and be loved, serve and be served?

If yes, which groups?

If not, what steps are you willing to take to become connected with a group?

3. Submitting to leaders: Do you willingly pledge to cooperate with and submit to the Elders, Pastors, and leaders at First Church?

If no, what are your reservations?

4. Preserving the Unity: Do you agree that even though you may hold differing personal views regarding 'secondary' issues not found in the Statement of Faith, you will not promot such teachings in ways that cause dissention and division?

If no, which differing views are you thinking of that you feel you must share?

Gifts

A Christ follower at First Church has made the following commitment:

To use whatever gifts God may give me to assist in the work and ministry of this church.

Are you using your time, talents and abilities and spiritual gifts in a place of service in the church?

Good Stewardship

Christ followers at First Church have made the following commitments:

To use personal material wealth in God honoring ways.

To regularly support this local body and its responsibilities around the world with giving.

1. Management: Do you believe the way you use your material wealth is God honoring in all respects?

If not, where is there a problem? What steps are you taking to make changes?

2. Giving: In light of the Biblical precedent (Deuteronomy 8:10-16; Leviticus 27:32; 1 Corinthians 16:2). Do you routinely support this body with financial giving?

If not, describe your current practice and how you're moving toward this goal.
